Terminal B, Los Angeles International Airport, LAX

Introduction

This is my review of the OneWorld lounge in LAX’s Tom Bradley Terminal.

I was taking a flight back from LAX to LHR. I decided to get to the airport early in the hope the Qantas Lounge would be open. Sadly, it wasn’t – so it was a bit quite a long layover as the flight was delayed.

I’d have reviewed this back in January, when I last flew to LHR from LAX – but loads of lounges in Terminal B were closed and BA were diverting people to the Star Alliance Lounge instead, which was excellent!

Entry Conditions

During my visit, the Qantas First Lounge was closed – so both First and Business class passengers were in the lounge across Qantas, BA and FinnAir.  

The OneWorld Lounge is technically open to:

• Passengers traveling in First
• Passengers traveling in Business
• OneWorld Sapphire or Emerald members

Opening Times

There are no published opening times for the lounge, other than it being open “3 hours before any BA, CX or QF flight”.

How to Get There

Once you’re through Security, walk through the ‘tunnel’ and you’ll find yourself in the main Concourse.

Look right, and you’ll see the Food Court, with escalators just in front. Take the escalators up a level, and the OneWorld Lounge will be in front of you to the right.  

Alternatively, if you’re coming from Terminal 4 or 5, you can use the elevator to Level 5 and walk along the mezzanine.

Layout

The Lounge is sort of a large round square, so you can effectively do a 360 around it.

Once you’re through the front door, you’ll take a right(ish) and you’ll find the bar in front of you. There is a bunch of casual seating around the bar area.

If you continue ‘round’ you’ll find more casual and dining seating, and also areas where the toilets and showers are.

Round again, you’ll find some more causal seating and some sleeping areas. For me, the sleeping areas are not ‘perfect’ if you truly want to sleep/rest – but they are a welcome alternate version of seating.

Finally, round again, you’ll find a Business Centre with a printer, and various desks and workstations.

Food and Drink

Drinks

Starting with the drinks – the bar is exceptionally well stocked and has a variety of beers and wines. The beers did appear to be non-descript – I didn’t see any Stella and was offered “Spanish beer” which wasn’t Estrella!  

Seemingly, the bar attendants are expert cocktail makers, and were frequently offering guests their recommendations of cocktails.  

There are a variety of self-service soft drinks stations available.

Food

The food is a self-service buffet. It didn’t appear to change between 4pm when I arrived and 10pm when I left.

On the menu was;

• Potato and leak soup
• Asian noodles
• Jasmine rice
• Spices cauliflower
• Macaroni cheese  

There were some self-serve salads available too.

Also available was some self-service deserts, such as brownies and other sweets.

Slightly strangely, at about 9pm appeared some cheese cubes and crackers! These suspiciously looked like they may be ‘extras’ from an Admirals Club!  

Wifi

I am afraid to say the Wifi was extremely poor on my visit.

My phone’s 3G/4G was not working in the lounge, so I was reliant on the Wifi – and I needed to do work on my laptop.

The Lounge wifi was in and out, and really very poor. In the end I used the LAX Free Wifi account – but given that I had a lot of work to do, I wasn’t very happy at all with the Wifi provided.

Showers

As always, around 8pm the showers in the lounge become block-booked for hours. I managed to get lucky around 9pm. I would guess there is a total of 6 or 8 showers.

The quality of the shower was great! It was hot, nice amount of water – and the décor of the shower very high quality indeed!

I wasn’t offered quite the extent of amenities that I was in Miami’s Flagship Lounge – but was offered a toothbrush, and the in-house soaps and gels are ASAPAR.   

Conclusion

I’ve been to this lounge a million times and am never adverse to going back. There is always enough seating and plenty of places to eat/drink/sleep/work. Though the sleep space could be quieter!  

The bar is always good, the food is sort of ‘OK’, the showers are excellent.

It’s a ‘good’ Business Class lounge, but it needs improvement on the food – and the Wifi!

That said, having experienced the Star Alliance Lounge in Terminal B – I know which I’d chose if I had the choice!
