Introduction

This is my seat review of Qatar Airways’ Business Class seat in its 787-9.

I should be clear and say that this is not the QSuite, but it is remarkably similar to the Qsuite, which I’ve reviewed seperately here.

The Cabin

The layout of this Business Class Cabin is in 1-2-1 style, with 8 rows – giving a total of 30 seats. If you’re good a maths, it’s because there is no 1E and 1F.

The ‘Suite’

I was in seat 6K, which has two windows and is on the right side of the plane.

The seat has a standard ‘side console’ on the side, where there is some storage.

On the left hand side of the seat there is a door – similar to Qsuite, which does close all the way. However, even with the door open its pretty private.

In general terms the ‘suite’ is similar to QSuite, but missing the second side console, which in this case would be on the left of the seat.

The seat has a variety of lighting possibilities, including a very nice lamp on the side, reading lights, etc.

Storage

In some respects this is a seat lacking storage. For example, there is no side pedestal to put things in like QSuite.

The only real storage is ‘on’ the side console (not ideal for takeoff/landing), and the smallish area doored compartment which has a mirror onside. Next to that is place possible for putting a phone in, but nothing bigger.

 The Seat

This is a very comfortable seat, offering 42″ pitch and 22″ width.

The adjustments are a little more basic than QSuite, but certainly by no means ‘bad’.

One feature I really like is the ‘lock’ function – which means when you the settings just right you stop any accidental movements. I didn’t however find that there is any ‘save’ feature.

Tray Table

The tray table is stored ‘under’ the screen and pulls out and rotates open.

Comparatively to Qsuite it’s not as large, but its fine for eating and some work – but if I was doing a day of plane work (which is very common for me), I could see that between that and the side console, I may struggle on space!

Charging

On the ‘back’ of the side console, next to the IFE control there was a USB + UK/Euro/US socket.

I tend to travel with lots of bits and pieces to ‘make things work’, so am generally OK – but it could really do with a second USB charger in my view.

Air Conditioning

Being an older aircraft, air conditioning nozzles were my seat – this was much appreciated as in the newer Qatar planes have these have been removed.

Conclusion

The first thing to say is this is still an excellent seat, which is miles ahead of many other competitors.

It may not be QSuite, but does have a door, which does a the same job – it’s just a smaller ‘suite’.

Apart from a few niggles in size, etc- I’d be more than happy to fly in this seat on any length of flight – it’s pretty good!
