Introduction

If you’ve read any of my posts before you’ll know I think Qatar Airways is a pretty fantastic airline.

However, if you are a couple, they offer one thing extra – a double bed seat/suite!

This is a review to explain what it’s like, when I flew with Mrs Neil. We were flying in 1E and 1F.

The ‘Suite’

In essence the ‘suite’ is exactly the same as a QSuite, however being joined, they are perfect for couples.

In fact, Qatar Airways go one step further and allow the two screens to be pushed to the side, offering opposite dining if you are in a 4. In our case 2 was company!

QSuites on the 777-300 are in 1-2-1 format – so we were in the centre of aisle.

Depending if you are on the left or right aisle, you’ll find a side console, which has the IFW control built into it. On top of this you’ll find your bedding, and ample storage for a laptop, phone, books, magazines. etc

Next to you on the ‘door side’, you’ll find a pedestal with more storage, which usually has Oryx headphones and a bottle of water waiting for you inside it.

I have to say I always find the QSuite plentiful for storage and finding places to put things. This really comes into its own when working on the plane – which I often do!

The Seat

This is a very comfortable seat, offering 42″ pitch and 21.5″ width.

The seat adjustments are plentiful, and come complete with a DND (Do Not Disturb) button! There are a number of pre-set commands, and also a few minor adjustments that can be made.

There is however no “save” button that I could find, not a “lock” button, which the Business Class offering on the 787-9 has.

Tray Table

The tray table is stored ‘under’ the screen and pulls out and flips open.

It is a very solid table, albeit mine was certainly put to some wear and tear!

Privacy

I will start by saying that if you find yourself traveling on your own and you don’t want to be cosy with a stranger – there are all kinds of screens and privacy settings which mean you won’t even know there is someone next to you.

However if you intend to book a double suite, then you probably don’t intend for there to be too much privacy – and there isn’t!

And you can see eachother’s entertainment – which some may find slightly annoying!

Charging

On the side console, next to the IFE there is a UK/Euro/US socket and two USB chargers. Perfect!

Air Conditioning

Being an older aircraft, air conditioning nozzles were my seat – this was much appreciated as in the newer Qatar planes have these have been removed.

Conclusion

The QSuite is an excellent product, and always has been.

For romantic couples on a honeymoon to the Maldives, this is a perfect product.

For Mrs Neil and I, who like to do our own thing, watching our own entertainment, etc (and Mrs Neil who likes to count how many beers I’ve had) – we probably will stick to window seats next time.

But this is certainly an excellent product!
