Terminal 3, Cancun International Airport, Mexico
Introduction
This is my review of the Mera VIP Lounge, which is shared with the Plaza Premium Lounge on the airside of Cancun International Airport.
There are some (seemingly much better) lounges on the land-side of Terminal 3 in CUN, however there were large queues getting through security – so I elected to find a lounge on air-side. As a note, British Airways operate flights from Cancun to Gatwick, and use the land-side lounge.
Sadly, my move may not have been the smartest, as this lounge isn’t great by any means – but sometimes it’s easier to do that then mess around in Security lines and worry about missing a flight!
Opening Hours
The published times of the Lounge are:
- Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 18:00
- Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) the lounge is open from 09:00 to 20:00.
However, my visit was on a Tuesday at 09:30!
Entry Conditions
In my case I was able to enter using my Platinum American Express card.
I believe there are other entry possibilities, including paying on the door. I definitely wouldn’t recommend doing that!
How to Get There
Between Bubba Gumps and Gate C17 there is sort of a corridor, and you’ll just about see the lounge entrance there.
More likely, you’ll see a large queue to the lounge before you see the entrance itself!
Layout
To say that this lounge is ‘modest’ would probably be a large understatement!
The lounge is made up from casual seating and some dining seating.
In fairness the decor is pretty high end and reminds me some of the Scandinavian lounges I’ve visited.
But, it’s a small lounge! There is nowhere to work, nowhere to do calls, no business centre, no sleeping/relaxing area – you get the picture!
Food and Drink
I think I can combine food and drinks in this section!
There is a pretty small bar which has some drinks and also some food.
The drinks are a small range of spirits, beers and soft drinks. If you want Champagne, etc, you need to pay extra.
The food, at best, was very basic- with nachos and guacamole, and that was pretty much it.
Wifi
The Wifi here was one thing that did seem just about OK.
Showers
Perhaps unsurprisingly, there were no showers in this lounge! There were barely any toilets!
Conclusion
Well…………
If you want a small place to get out of way, this is an OK lounge, I guess. But the food is pretty poor and drinks have a minuscule variety.
I definitely wouldn’t be paying to get in – nor would I be impressed if this lounge was part of of an airline’s package.
