Aer Lingus – Business Class Seat Review (Airbus A330-300)

  • May 2, 2021

Introduction

This is my review of Aer Lingus‘ Business Class seat on their Airbus A330 aircraft. In this case, I was sat in seat 3A, which is a window seat.

The Layout

Aer Lingus’ A330’s have a bit of a funny layout. They sort of vary between 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 arrangement. I am not quite sure why this is – but I guess it works for them!

In some ways this isn’t as bad as it may seem as it offers seating for couples as well as individuals – and some couples may prefer to sit by the window, and so forth.

Privacy

Whilst this by no means is a Suite or anything like that, the privacy I thought was ok.

I didn’t feel overlooked, nor was I staring anyone in the face – but the seat in front of me was quite ‘exposed’. But I don’t think that really mattered.

The Seat

I found the seat very comfortable for both sitting in and sleeping in flatbed mode.

The seat is controlled by a number of buttons, it doesn’t have any memory, but does have various controls. There is also a massage function – but I didn’t find it to be doing an awful lot.

There is one small issue that I found with the seat control buttons, and that is that there is a second set – this is right were you may rest your arms or your elbow – which seemed to trigger some of the buttons accidentally (I was wearing a T-shirt), which at times could be annoying!

Table

The table launches from the side console, by the window.

I found this to be slightly hazardous, as the way the table launches probably means you’d want to clear your side console, to avoid any clashes with drinks and other items!

The table folds 90 degrees, in case of bathroom breaks, etc.

Storage

There are a few (but not loads) of areas of storage.

Firstly, there is a side console which is good for placing a laptop or other larger items. Down by your feet (next to the safety cards) there is more storage, and finally there is a cupboard built within the side console for storing bits and pieces.

For me, the storage was more than adequate – and any more you start forgetting things!

Charging/Power

Next to the seat controls, near where your elbows would be is a multi UK/US/EU socket and also a USB socket. This is also where the headphones for the entertainment plug in. If you’re organised like me, it’s probably fine – if you have multiple USB devices to charge and no adaptors or variety of cables – you may find yourself in trouble!

Air Circulation

Fortunately, this seat did have adjustable nozzles for air conditioning over it!

Conclusion

As Business Class seats go on wide-body aircraft, this is pretty good. I am not sure I would have the same opinion if I was a solo traveler flying next to someone – but 3A as a solo traveler was fine!

The seat is very comfortable, has good storage, and is generally a good option if flying Business Class.
