Introduction

This is my review of the American Airlines Flagship Business Class seat on the A321T, Transcon service from East to West coast America (and back!).

In this case, I was flying with Mrs Neil who took 6A (the window seat) and I sat in 6C.

The Layout

The layout of the A321T’s Business Class is 2-2, meaning you’re always say next to someone.

The seats are slightly tapered – but it still probably isn’t the most comfortable experience if you’re next to a complete stranger!

If your window-sitting friend needs the bathroom, they literally have to climb over you.

Privacy

In short, there is none!

Whether your neighbour is watching entertainment, reading, or something else – you’ll know about it.

Likewise if you want to sleep during the overnight flight, and your partner wants to read with their light on, it could cause some problems!

Fortunately for me, I was on an overnight flight and intended to sleep, and so did Mrs Neil!

The Seat

The seat itself is very comfortable for sitting and working.

Unlike 787/777 Flagship seats, which have seat controls on an iPhone looking screen – the A321T has buttons on the centre console.

With that said, there are still ample controls and it’s very comfortable!

There is good room to stretch out, but slightly more limited than traditional Flagship seats.

Table

The table is fair in size, but does not sit on the arm rest. This means that the table can be rather wobbly when working or eating on it.

Another feature, which is hard to explain in writing, is there is no flap that has to close when the table is moved vertically. This means that instead of folding the whole table away for a bathroom break, it’s possible to flip the into a vertical position to get in and out. You just need to make sure there are no drinks on it when you do!

Storage

There wasn’t a huge amount of storage in this seat.

Under the screens there is a shelf, where headphones and small items go, and under the foot stool there is an area where shoes or bedding could go.

Between the two seats there is another small amount of storage, for water bottles, phones, etc.

Either way, the storage wasn’t huge!

Charging/Power

The seat features a single USB socket, and a multi-socket – offering 13A, Schuko and Edison sockets. There was no other charging I could see.

Conclusion

This is a very comfortable way to travel transcontinental.

However, the lack of privacy was a bit annoying. With someone you don’t know, who may need the toilet often, it could get annoying if you’re in an aisle seat!

Likewise, the lack of storage was a bit annoying – by the time you factor in headphones, amenities kits, bedding, shoes, etc, etc.

With all that said, if I was going to travel transcontinental again with Mrs Neil, I’d definitely consider it. If I was going solo, I’d probably consider the Flagship First – which is individual seats, all with aisle access.
