Introduction

This is my review of the American Airlines Flagship Lounge at D-Gates in Dallas Fort Worth, the home of American Airlines.

I’ve visited this lounge probably over 50 times, but have not been through Dallas for a while – so finally had the chance to review!

There are also other American Airlines lounges in DFW, which I hope to review very soon. I would say that whilst this is very good lounge, it’s not quite at the level of the equivalent Greenwich Lounge in JFK, which is also a major American Airlines hub.

Opening Hours

The lounge is open daily from 05:00 until 22:15.

Entry Conditions

My entry to this lounge was through flying Business Class with British Airways. Otherwise, access is available to OneWorld members with Sapphire or Emerald status.

If you’re not flying Business Class internationally, you may want to check the Flagship Lounge entry guide here, as lounge entry can be quite complicated!

How to Get There

Taking the train to D-Gates, you will go down the escalators, and find Gates D21/D22.

Once you’re next to D21/D22, you’ll see the entrance (also shared with the Capital One Lounge). From here you’ll take the elevators up to the lounge, where you’ll be greeted at the desk.

One thing to mind is that Capital One have a large waiting area at the entrance, so make sure you don’t get stuck in the wrong line!

Layout

This lounge is quite a long and narrow lounge, which has some really well thought about areas.

There is plenty of seating which has some great views over the runway and American Airlines hangars!

As with many American lounges, there is plenty of casual seating for drinks and relaxing.

Around the food area, there is plenty of dining and restaurant seating.

There are some other areas great for resting and relaxing, including a cinema area and a rest area.

If you want to work, there some work stations – although for the size of the lounge this isn’t quite big enough in my view. Importantly, there is a printer!

Food & Drinks

Drinks

All drinks from this lounge are self-service.

You’ll find a soft drinks machine, champagne/wine bar, bar with self-pour liquor and a large fridge with a huge variety of beers! For me this is pretty good – but I can see that compared, to the Greenwich Lounge in New York, where there is a full bar service, some may be disappointed.

Either way I can’t fault the variety of drinks, nor the quality.

Food

The food in this lounge is also self-service, again unlike the Greenwich Lounge (where you can order from an App).

I found the food OK, but certainly by no means as extensive as it has been at other Flagship lounges I’ve visited. Options included chicken, pork, fish, potatoes, salads and some cheese options.

There was also a live cooking station, and on the day I was there, burritos were being cooked.

Wifi

As always, I found the Wifi in this lounge to be pretty fast and reliable – despite the fact it was pretty busy.

Showers

The good news is this lounge is about 8 showers, and they even provide (the now chained up!) Dyson hairdryers.

I always advise getting a shower sooner than later, as if you’re on a late PM flight the chances are you may have to wait!

The shower comes with a variety of products, soaps, etc. I found that it was perfectly hot – and I take long showers!

Conclusion

On the one hand the DFW lounge is a great lounge, it has plenty to eat and drink, showers, places to work and sleep/relax.

On the other hand, when compared to the Greenwich Lounge in New York, there is some room for improvement – and given that Dallas in.theory should be American’s Flagship lounge (no pun intended) – one may say there could be be a little under-par on their approach.

That said, it is much better than the Admirals Clubs!
