Terminal 1, Frankfurt Airport, Germany

Neil Scrivener reviews the Lufthansa Business Class Lounge by Gate B44 in Frankfurt’s Airport (FRA).

Introduction

This is my review of the Lufthansa Lufthansa Business Lounge in Terminal 1 of Frankfurt’s Airport, which is in the B-Gates area.

There are two Lufthansa lounges in the B-gates area, this one and one by Gate B24 – they are to all intents and purposes identical.

Along the way you will find Senator Lounges, which are for First Class passengers – but I was a Business Class passenger, with access only to Business Class lounges on this trip.

Entry Conditions

I am still getting my head around how Star Alliance’s policies work, however in essence;

  • Flying Business Class or First Class grants access (no companion allowed)
  • Star Alliance Gold Members in any class (with a companion, who has to be on the SAME flight)
  • You can pay between €25 and €50 for access

There is also a separate Senator Lounge, which is open to Star Alliance Gold members, or passengers flying First Class.

I’m still getting my head around Star Alliance’s tiering – but it seems unlike BA whose lounge access starts at Silver, lounge access on Star Alliance is Gold and above.

Opening Times

The lounge is open daily between 06:00 and 22:00.

How to Get There

This is quite easy to find!

Heading towards Gates B44 to B48, you’ll eventually come to the ‘end’ of the terminal.

Here you will see the check in desk and spiral staircase – although there are also elevators!

Layout

The lounge is identical to the lounge by Gate B24…..literally!

Unlike the Panorama Room, this is a ‘very corporate’ feeling lounge. It was very clean, and relatively empty – but it didn’t have many soft furnishings, if I can put it like that!

The lounge has a variety of high-table seating, dining seating and sofas/casual seating.

One huge improvement to the A13 lounge, is the working areas. There is some high-table working with a large printer. But there are also food few private telephone rooms. These have ‘proper office’ facilities in the form of desks, power/charging and comfy seat. A real winner!

Beyond the sofas, I didn’t see anywhere to sleep.

Food and Drink

Drinks

All of the drinks in this lounge are self-service. They were no different from A-gates lounges, from what I could see.

There did seem to be a wide range of soft drinks, German beers, spirits and wines. As I’ve written about other lounges in Frankfurt, there is the rollout of alcohol free beer – which is really good, and helps when driving the other end!

Food

The food did seem to be a little more wide-ranging than the A-Gates lounge, with more variety. Although there was no hot dog cart!

The food still was……well…….a but “meh” with some hot dishes, pastas, breads, and other items. It’s no real different to a Priority Lounge in my opinion.

Wifi

I found the Wifi in the lounge to be a bit problematic. I was trying to do a Teams call and the Wifi just refused to allow me. I could get into other websites and so forth, but the Wifi just wasn’t having it with Teams. So in the end I did the Teams call on my phone via 5G.

Showers

There are showers in this lounge. I didn’t visit them, but I suspect the look something like this:

Conclusion

This is a decent lounge. It was very quiet when I arrived around 5pm – but this could because it was after the morning rush of US flights, and before flights to Asia began to leave.

The lounge is very clean and tidy, but possibly missing the feeling of ‘luxury’ to it – but all the other Lufthansa lounges I’ve been to are much the same.

The food and drinks I guess are acceptable, the working areas very well thought about, the wifi annoying – and having showers is always a good thing!

All in all, it’s certainly never going to win any prizes for the best Business Class lounge in the world – but it’s not terrible either!
