Haneda Airport, Tokyo, Japan

Introduction

This is my review of the Japan Airlines (JAL) Sakura Lounge Sky View at Level 5 of Haneda’s Airport. There is also another Sakura Lounge, called the Sakura Lounge on the level below (Level 4). I found the Sky View lounge to be quieter

Opening Hours

The lounge is open daily from 06:00 until 12:00, then re-opens from 18:00 until 00:30.

Entry Conditions

My entry to this lounge was through flying Business Class with Japan Airlines. Otherwise access is available to OneWorld members with Sapphire or Emerald status.

On JAL’s own terms, access is available through flying First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy or on a flexible Economy ticket – which is far more than other OneWorld airlines offer.

It may also be the case the access can be purchased.

How to Get There

From Passport Control make a right hand turn towards Gate 114. Close to Gate 114 you will see a sign that says “Airline Lounges”, make a left here and you will see the escalators.

Take the escalators to Level 5 and you will find the entrance to the JAL Sakura Lounge on the left hand side.

Layout

I may be wrong, but it certainly felt as though this lounge is by far bigger than the Sakura Lounge, downstairs.

There is a large amount of casual seating in the lounge, with low tables. The high-quality decor, I think speaks for itself.

As with all the JAL lounges, they seem to take pride in having lots of dining seating. I think this is great, as there is nothing worse than trying to eat off a low table!

There are also some great areas for working – long tables with seating and power.

There is a (working) printer, which I used and was very happy about! There is also a number of the telephone rooms – my understanding is that it would be considered rude in Japanese culture to use the phone or be on Zoom calls in the ‘exposed’ lounge. Strangely, unlike the First Class lounge, the telephone rooms don’t have seats.

Food and Drink

Drinks

Like the Sakura Lounge on Level 4, the drinks in this lounge are all self-service, through using the machines. Drinks on offer included beers, wines, soft drinks and hot drinks.

Food

Most of the food in this lounge is via a buffet service. Like the Sakura Lounge, the food was fairly basic – including a salad bar, fries, chicken or fish nuggets, and a few Japanese dishes. There was also some breads available too.

I did find some cookies in this lounge – but I suspect they are also in the downstairs Sakura Lounge, but I didn’t find them!

If you wanted it, there were a few options available to order from the App – however, this was nowhere near as extensive as the JAL First lounge.

Wifi

The Wifi I found to be strong and reliable – however I was mostly using it for emails and reading, rather than any streaming or heavy downloading.

Showers

There are showers in the lounge which can be reserved through the App. Having already showered in the JAL Lounge, I didn’t use them. I am sure they were very good though!

Conclusion

This is a great Business Class lounge, and in my ways I found it bigger and quieter than the Sakura Lounge – and also a better layout. There is plenty of seating, good Wifi and showers – along with great decor!

I’ve certainly had better food and drink choices in other Business Class lounges, but the offering was fair. Given the choice between the Sky View and the Sakura, I would take Sky View.
