Terminal 2, Heathrow Airport

Introduction

This is my review of the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at Heathrow’s Terminal 2.   

I’d heard great things about all the lounges at Terminal 2’s B-Zone – so was excited to see what the lounge had to offer.

Entry Conditions

This Lounge is available to Star Alliance Gold Members and passengers traveling in Business Class (or higher) with either Air Canada – or other Star Alliance partners.

At Heathrow’s Terminal 2, entry could be for passengers traveling on Singapore Airlines, United or Air Canada from the B-Zone – or if you fancied the walk TAP, Swiss, Lufthansa, etc who fly from A-Gates.  

Opening Times

The lounge is open daily from 06:00 to 17:30.

How to Get There

The lounge is situated in B-Zone for Terminal 2, which means if your flight is from A-zone it will be walk of around 15 to 20 minutes each way, officially. In reality, I’ve done it in about 8 minutes!  

With that said, this lounge, the Singapore Airlines Lounge and United lounges are by far superior to the Lufthansa lounge in A-Zone – so I recommend that the walk is well worth it if you have enough time!

Having gone through Security, take the escalators down to the Departures level.   

As you’re looking at the big glass in front of you, on the left of the terminal is the walkway to B-Zone.

Once you’re at B-Zone, take the escalators up to the Departures floor – look left and you’ll see the entrance to this and the Singapore Airlines Lounge. You’ll then take an elevator up a level.

Once out of the elevator, make a left, and you’ll see the entrance in front of you.

Layout

I have to say I give Air Canada 10 out of 10 for both being on brand and creating a lounge with such lovely décor!

The lounge is actually fairly modest in size, and has almost entirely casual seating. Much of the casual seating is next to the huge windows that make the lounge to light and airy.  

There is a modest sized dining area, for a maximum of around 20 people.

There is also a ‘workstation’ area, with charging devices – though there is no apparent area for taking calls or working quietly.

My favourite feature of the lounge is the ‘boardroom’, which has a lovely boardroom table, a huge Air Canada scale model plane – and a big printer! Printers are important when working from airline lounges!

Food and Drink

Food

Unless I missed something – all food was self-service.

There was a limited amount of hot food, which include beef goulash, rice, and some breakfast items.

Separately, there was a fridge with cold meats, cheeses and salad items.

There was also self-service cookies, crisps, nuts, and other sweets.

I have to say from a food point of view, unless I missed something, I wasn’t hugely impressed with this lounge in the way I have been with United and Singapore Airlines lounges.

Drinks

Drinks were another level!

There were self-served soft drinks, tea and coffee.

However, if you wanted something more, there is a fully stocked bar – with very friendly bar tenders – who will give you anything you may want!

I was impressed at the beer choices too, which included Guinness, Cobra, Carling and Coors. I’ll save the debate on Carling and Coors for another time!

Wifi

Wifi was available in the lounge and worked perfectly.

Showers

The lounge seems to have two showers, but both of these were closed and locked. I’m not sure if this is a Covid thing, or if you need to request access from the front desks – but I didn’t need to shower, so I didn’t enquire.  

Conclusion

Like the Singapore Airlines Lounge, compared to the United Lounge this lounge is fairly modest in size, and I am not sure how prime Heathrow is as a route for Air Canada – but it’s a really nice lounge!

My only gripe with this lounge would be the food, in terms of choice. Other than that, I’d be happy to re-visit!
