Terminal 3, Heathrow Airport

Introduction

This is my review of the American Airlines Admirals Club at Heathrow’s Terminal 3.

What’s interesting about this lounge is it’s considered not ‘Flagship’ lounge, but does has similar décor and sort of similar food to a Flagship.

Attached to this lounge is also an International First Lounge, which I have also reviewed in the post.

Opening Hours

The lounge is open daily from 05:30 to 19:00.

Entry Conditions

The Admirals Club is open to OneWorld Emerald, OneWorld Sapphire members, and those traveling from Terminal 3 in Business Class (or First Class) on American Airlines or another OneWorld carrier. 

The International First Class Lounge is open to OneWorld Emerald members, and those traveling from Terminal 3 in First Class on American Airlines (and I guess other OneWorld airlines). Access to this lounge is through a set of automated doors next to the check in desk.

How to Get There

After Security, walk through T3’s shopping plaza and follow the signs for Lounge H (it’s very well signposted); here you’ll see the entrance straight in front of you.    

International First Class Lounge

Layout

This lounge is essentially the same as the Admirals Club, just a little smaller. The seating, is substantially the same.

The main ‘addition’ to this lounge is the A La Carte Flagship Dining area, which offers sit-down dining to passengers.

Food and Drink

Drinks

On the drinks side, you’ll find a large fridge stocked with various beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks. Everything is self-service, although this may be different if you’re in the Flagship Dining area.

Food

There is a decent selection of self-service food, which includes snacks, fish dishes, sushi, cheeses, bowl foods, etc.

Having studied the A La Carte Flagship Dining menu; for me there was nothing at all appealing – so I chose the self-service food.

Other Facilities

Showers are Wifi are shared between the International First Lounge and Admirals Club.

This means that if you’re in the International First Lounge and want to use the showers, you’ll need to pop to the Admirals Club.

Admirals Club

Layout

In general terms, this lounge has mostly casual seating in various areas, mainly overlooking the airport’s apron. I can’t say it’s the most inspiring of decor and T3’s Centurion and Cathay Pacific lounges easily win on that front!

I found a small, less busy area on the way into the main lounge, where I stopped.

There is a sort of ‘TV lounge’ area, which has running news channels – similar to the ones in the US.

Around the dining area, there are dining tables, which are high and low tables.

There is also a ‘quiet area’, which has some sleeping chairs – designed for relaxation and rest. Unfortunately, this area isn’t really set away from the main lounge, so does tend to get a lot of the noise.

There is also a sort of working area (see top right of the picture below), but of course its next to the quiet area!   

Food and Drink

Drinks

On the drinks side, you’ll find a large fridge stocked with various beers and soft drinks.

There is a small variety of spirits, white wines, red wines, and prosecco.

Food

Despite having been to this lounge more times than I can remember, I’ve always visited at breakfast time. This was time no different!

I’d say there is actually quite a wide variety of hot breakfast items, which are typical cooked breakfast items. It’s not quite the Cathay Pacific Lounge, but its still pretty good!

Alternatively, there is a variety of cereals, breads, cheeses and pasties.

One of my favourite areas is the very colourful pick ’n’ mix bar, which I find to be really good around Christmas time!

A new feature to this lounge is the ice cream freezer – but it was a bit early for me!  

Wifi

I’ve always found Wifi to be pretty good in this lounge – it has to be to keep the Americans going on all their calls they seem to all day!  

Showers

There are a number of showers in this lounge, they are really nice in quality – though unlike the Miami Lounge, no Dyson hairdryers here!  

Conclusion

After the Cathay Pacific Lounge, I think this is my second favourite lounge. Not because of the food (the BA Galleries First at T3 offers a la carte dining too), but because of the added features like the pick’n’mix – yes seriously! It’s nice to find something ‘different’.  

It also, as Admirals Clubs go, a pretty decent lounge – and the food is better than any of the Admirals Clubs than I’ve been to in America.
