Introduction

This is my review of Royal Jordanian’s Business Class seat, offered on their Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

I have combined the window seat and central aisle seat, as they are substantially the same.

The Layout

Business Class in RJ’s Boeing 787-8 is in 2-2-2 format – which across their aircraft offers 24 Business Class seats. In my view these are very much ‘couples’ seats, as it is quite awkward sitting next to a stranger!

If you’re in the ‘middle two’ it’s good as you don’t have to step over your neighbour’s feet!

The good news is that the seats do pretty much lay flat and are very comfortable!

Privacy

Generally speaking there is no privacy to be found here!

The seats are slightly angled, in theory to give some privacy – but in reality, this is a couples holiday seat!

The Seat

I found the seat very comfortable for both sitting in and sleeping in flatbed mode.

The seat is controlled by a basic panel in the centre console of the seat – and in general terms I couldn’t fault it.

Table

The table launches from the ‘centre console’ between the two seats.

The table unflaps once to be a ‘drinks table’ and again for an eating table.

I’ve always found these tables to be quite unstable, and for working from they really were not ideal!

The good news is that unlike some seats, there is some support via the arm rest.

Storage

Really there is not a lot of storage at all in or around seat.

Behind the seat there is somewhere for as water bottle, amenities kit and other bits and pieces to be stored. Other than that the storage areas are in the central console (where drinks would also be placed) and just under the screen – but you’re unlikely to get a laptop in there!

Charging/Power

The only place to charge anything is in the storage area behind your head. This offers an European socket and a USB – it is also where the headphones plug in.

If you have work to do on the flight, or want to use a phone – iPAD, I suggest bringing a long charging lead!

Air Circulation

Unfortunately, there were no nozzles for seat temperature control! On my flights I didn’t find the temperature too bad.

Conclusion

My flights on Royal Jordanian were 6 hours each way, and for me this type of seat is absolutely fine.

However, Royal Jordanian operate this aircraft from Amman to cities such as Washington, New York and Chicago. I can see that for those length flights the seat may be a little annoying!
