Introduction

This is my review of the Plaza Premium Lounge in at Singapore’s Changi Airport.

It’s note worthy that in Singapore, Security is done at the gate – rather than before you get the lounges and duty free. For this reason, be sure that you don’t overdo it in the lounge, as you’ll need to pass through security before you board!

Opening Hours

The lounge is open 24 hours a day.

Entry Conditions

Entry for me was gained via my American Express Platinum Card.

However I understand there are a number of bank cards which allow entry to the lounge – it may also be possible to pay on the door.

How to Get There

The lounge is located on Level 3.

If you can find Gate C1, it’s up the escalators and you’ll see the lounge in front of you.

Layout

The lounge has a variety of seating and other areas.

As slightly strange area is the VIP areas, which are roped off – but no explanation as to how to hire one – or who a VIP is. Maybe you have to be a VIP to find out?!

The main seating area consists of causal seating, which overlooks the runway.

An area I quite liked is the ‘honeycomb’ working areas – perfect for working quietly and doing calls, complete with charging points.

Slightly different to the honeycombs, I also really liked the ‘pods’ – which are also good for working in, and have charging points.

Close to the bar and dining area there is some dining seating – although not much.

Food and Drink

Drinks

Soft drinks in the lounge were self-service from fridges or coffee stations.

If you wanted something stronger, a limited amount of drinks were served from the bar – otherwise there was a price list for you to pay!

Food

A relatively small variety for food was on offer, including some hot dishes – nothing really that good, in my opinion!

Wifi

I found the Wifi here to be pretty good, with no speed issues at all.

Showers

Showers are available by asking at reception – if they are occupied, you’ll get a restaurant-style buzzer that tells you when a shower is free.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no charge for use of the showers, unlike other Plaza Premium Lounges.

Conclusion

This is an OK, lounge.

But if there is one thing that cheeses me off about these styles of lounges; is the whole premium drinks thing. There were also quite a few areas which were roped off, or said to be reserved – however luckily the lounge wasn’t busy enough for it to be annoying.

With that said, if you are intending on paying for entry – you may well be worth balancing the cost of lounges like this against dining with proper food and a few beverages!
